Work Stays Explained: Accommodation for Contractors on Short and Long Jobs
A work stay is accommodation booked because of a job, not a holiday. If you are a contractor, engineer, nurse or part of a project team working away from home, a work stay gives you a base close to site for a few days, a few weeks or a few months.
How work stays differ from a normal booking
They run for longer, so a kitchen, laundry and parking matter more than a hotel lobby.
Dates often change as projects move, so flexibility is worth asking about.
The booking may be paid by a company, so invoicing needs to be simple.
Location is chosen around the site, not the tourist sights.
Short work stays (up to a few weeks)
Short stays suit emergency repairs, inspections, training courses and the first phase of a project. A furnished apartment is often enough, and you can book quickly. Tell us your start date and how many people are travelling.
Long work stays (one month and over)
On a longer job you want a place that feels like home. A house with a full kitchen, parking and Wi-Fi keeps costs down and morale up. For a team, sharing a house is usually cheaper per person than separate rooms, and everyone is in one place.
What to do before you enquire
Know your start date and the likely end date.
Know the postcode or nearest town of the site.
Count how many people need a bed, and how many need their own room.
Note whether you need parking for a van.
